May Mtg.Our May meeting started out with a great supper of leftover smoked pork steaks from our pro-life barbeque. Added to the steak were mashed potatoes, cole slaw and brownies. Now there’s a reason to show up!

Here’s our officer team in action as the meeting got started. Our meeting minutes will be forthcoming and provide more details for you.

We started the meeting by saying the rosary. It’s the month to honor our Blessed Mother so please take out that rosary you were given when you became a Knight and say it. If any member needs a rosary we can get one for you. Just contact Chuck Zimmerman and he’ll have one sent to you.

Brian JohnsonBrother Knights:

Spring has been busy. We’ve managed the annual BBQ, a Highway clean-up, State Convention and a few meetings in between. In May please join us for the monthly meeting Wed May 12th, the St Jude walk-a-thon May 15, help with Mothers Day carnations at all masses the weekend of May 8-9 and bring some new members to the June 9th meeting for 1st Degree initiation.

The Carmelite Fish Fry is planned for June 11 so plan to come eat and/or serve to help the good sisters.

On a serious note, if your Knights of Columbus insurance agents call on you; give them some time. They have good insurance products that benefit us as individuals and as an organization. We all need some kind of insurance, might as well buy from a friend.

Pray the Rosary in May, read your bulletin for K of C events & come to a meeting.

God Bless,

Brian Johnson, Grand Knight

Fr. Ben NwosuDear Brother Knights,

My trip to Nigeria was very exciting. I had the opportunity to visit with my family and friends. They are all doing well. Everybody is okay and they are all grateful for the love shown to me by you all. I had the opportunity to visit my bishop and some priests, they are all in great shape and they want me to send their good wishes to you all.

It was very cold when I left in first week of February and by the time I got to Nigeria it was really hot, that I wanted to come back. Any ways, I learned to be appreciative for the wonder of God’s creation and to be very grateful to God whether in cold or hot weather

I came back to the busy time of Holy Week and Easter. Since this is my first Easter at the Cathedral, it was quite exciting to be part of the whole ceremony as the Master of Ceremonies. The Holy week and Easter ceremonies were really exhilarating. Everything was fantastic, the liturgies and the decorations. I enjoyed every bit of it and I hope you did too. The joy of the whole events still goes on in my heart and I pray it lives on in your hearts too. The Easter feeling is one that creates a feeling of happiness and joy because it is awe-inspiring to know that our God did not abandon us into the hands of death, but lifted us all up from the dungeon of death by the Death and Resurrection of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Alleluia has become our song.

Happy Easter.

Chaplain

The National Knights of Columbus is urging all Knights to say a novena in support of our Pope Benedict. You can learn more about it on the website.

All Knights of Columbus are encouraged to join in a special novena for Pope Benedict XVI, beginning Divine Mercy Sunday, April 11, and concluding Monday, April 19, the fifth anniversary of the Holy Father’s election in 2005.

We pray for the pope and for his pastoral mission, asking God to protect, strengthen and uplift our beloved Holy Father at this time of considerable challenge.

You can find the following prayer on the prayer card they have created (pdf).

PRAYER FOR POPE BENEDICT XVI

Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to your shepherd, Benedict, a spirit of courage and right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and love. By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care, may he, as successor to the Apostle Peter and Vicar of Christ, build your Church into a sacrament of unity, love and peace for all the world. Amen.

V/ Let us pray for Benedict, the pope.

R/ May the Lord preserve him, give him a long life, make him blessed upon the earth, and not hand him over to the power of his enemies.

V/ May your hand be upon your holy servant.

R/ And upon your son, whom you have anointed.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

2010 Pro Life BBQOur Council held its annual Barbeque to benefit prolife causes today in the parking lot of the Walmart. The smell was wonderful and attracted people who didn’t even know it was going on.

I’ve added a number of photos from the event today to our online photo album. There’s a permanent link in the right sidebar.

Here’s a familiar scene to Catholics around the country this Lenten season. The Friday night Knights of Columbus fish fry.

This is our Council’s dinner in the Cathedral Undercroft and in the photo our Bishop joined us for supper. We’ll be doing it again this Friday too. The only thing I would caution is to eat in moderation. Remember it is Lent and although we aren’t required to fast it’s not a bad idea to resist the temptation for an extra helping. Consider it a small mortification.
